目前絕大多數(shù)英語教材在知識學(xué)習(xí)和技能訓(xùn)練方面都比較關(guān)注聽、說、讀的活動設(shè)計,寫的活動通常作為鞏固環(huán)節(jié)安排在每個單元或者模塊學(xué)習(xí)之后。寫作活動只是要求學(xué)生根據(jù)課文內(nèi)容以及提供的相關(guān)句型和詞匯寫作,然而這種寫作任務(wù)實際上是要求學(xué)生對課文進行機械模仿。為什么要這么寫?這么寫的知識要求有哪些?這些關(guān)鍵性的問題教材沒有涉及。這就需要教師補充相關(guān)知識。為了彌補教材設(shè)計的不足,教師應(yīng)根據(jù)不同的寫作教學(xué)目標要求,結(jié)合寫作內(nèi)容、寫作方法、寫作文體,補充相關(guān)的寫作知識和寫作策略。在布置寫作任務(wù)之前或者在寫作訓(xùn)練當中,先進行相關(guān)的寫作知識指導(dǎo)。

要利用單元話題來活躍學(xué)生的思維,話題的選擇就要有一定的針對性。主題寫作要貼近學(xué)生的生活,與學(xué)生的學(xué)習(xí)經(jīng)驗、能力和水平相當。教材為學(xué)生進行主題寫作提供了語料和方法策略指導(dǎo),有很強的指導(dǎo)性和示范性,脫離了單元話題的寫作難以提高學(xué)生的寫作能力,也就達不到鞏固單元目標語言的效果,更無法全面提升學(xué)生的綜合語言素質(zhì)。

目前筆者所在地區(qū)采用的是新編北師大版高中英語教材。這套教材一大優(yōu)點在于其語言材料的組織都是圍繞某個主題展開的。每單元有一個主題,下面每一課都有自己的話題,對于這些話題學(xué)生都較感興趣,有話可說。這樣的教材編排特點適合開展主題寫作活動。每個單元的.前三課或四課是單元話題下的基本詞匯、短語、句型和語法項目的學(xué)習(xí),Communication Workshop是對單元知識的擴展和綜合運用,通常有基于單元話題的寫作指導(dǎo)及任務(wù)。學(xué)生獲得的單元基礎(chǔ)語言知識以及他們運用語言知識的準確和熟練程度,完全可以通過話題寫作活動來檢驗和強化,而且主題寫作活動可以體現(xiàn)語言學(xué)習(xí)的價值和意義。
。ǘ 主題寫作教學(xué)實例
下面結(jié)合新編北師大版高中英語教材第7模塊,第21單元的主題寫作教學(xué)案例進行探析。
本單元的話題是人類生物學(xué),通過單元學(xué)習(xí),學(xué)生應(yīng)能夠流利地運用單元目標詞匯和基本句型來討論有關(guān)人類科學(xué)的相關(guān)話題。食物、健康和醫(yī)學(xué)是人類生存和發(fā)展中永恒的話題。學(xué)生對人類科學(xué)有較為濃厚的興趣,所以此單元話題下的寫作圍繞人類發(fā)展展開,貼近學(xué)生的生活,易于激發(fā)學(xué)生的寫作興趣。學(xué)生對單元主題詞匯和基礎(chǔ)語句已經(jīng)有了一定的掌握和積累,能夠用單元基礎(chǔ)語言材料組織語句,表達自己的想法。教師在指導(dǎo)學(xué)生進行主題寫作時,完全可以依托單元話題語料。
克隆人是在人類生物學(xué)發(fā)展到今天無法回避的話題,但具有極大爭議性,這種本身有爭議的話題正適合本單元Communication Workshop的寫作要求Learn to write a discursive essay,此文體要求學(xué)生第一段介紹話題,第二三段分述反面觀點及正面觀點,最后一段給出個人觀點。但由于克隆人在現(xiàn)實世界中還沒有出現(xiàn),同時又遠離學(xué)生生活,因此為了給學(xué)生帶來更直觀的感受,教師最好課前布置所有同學(xué)回家觀看電影《逃離克隆島》,這部電影探討了科隆人及其引發(fā)的道德問題。
課堂上教師首先利用大量的與主題相關(guān)的圖片、電影片段等創(chuàng)設(shè)談?wù)摽寺∪说姆諊寣W(xué)生用英語表明自己對克隆人這一科學(xué)話題的態(tài)度。這一活動激活了學(xué)生寫作所需的話題詞匯,可以作為寫前的熱身。從交際功能的角度講,這樣的聽、說形式的語言活動,不但不會沖擊主題寫作活動,反而與主題寫作教學(xué)是相互統(tǒng)一、相互促進的。
在完成上述活動后,教師引導(dǎo)學(xué)生通過小組合作寫一段話介紹克隆人話題并過渡到Should Human Cloning be allowed?這一主題上。這一活動調(diào)動了學(xué)生的寫作積極性和主動參與意識,在輕松活躍的氛圍中強化了其對概括技巧的理解和運用,學(xué)生的語言儲備和發(fā)散思維得到充分激活,他們更加愉悅和主動地參與主題討論,為下一步的寫作活動做好前期準備。
在完成上述活動的基礎(chǔ)上,通過課本P99的Writing Help引導(dǎo)學(xué)生通過小組協(xié)作完成a discursive essay的后三段提綱,要求第二三段分別寫出中心句及至少兩個論據(jù);谛〗M活動的寫作練習(xí)實際上幫助學(xué)生搜集有說服力的論據(jù)并克服對寫作的畏難情緒,讓他們有信心完成寫作。這種形式的寫作訓(xùn)練強化了學(xué)生的語言運用技能,幫助學(xué)生初步完成單元寫作要求,培養(yǎng)學(xué)生的寫作思維和寫作能力。
教師可以要求學(xué)生在寫完提綱后,同伴間相互交換檢查,檢查內(nèi)容包括拼寫、用詞是否準確,句式是否準確,語法是否準確,語言表達是否流暢、豐富等;ピu可以鼓勵學(xué)生間健康向上的競爭,激發(fā)競爭意識,促使每個學(xué)生盡力提供最好的作品,并且糾錯之一的過程有時語言知識的再現(xiàn)和再復(fù)習(xí)過程,能夠使學(xué)生在交流中得到更多的幫助,收獲不同的語言思維和語言表達方式,補充和豐富自己的語言學(xué)習(xí)。
在提綱寫作的基礎(chǔ)上,引導(dǎo)學(xué)生利用Writing Help中的格式要求(正式與中立的風格),以及Communication Workshop中的連接詞(although, even though, however, therefore, while)獨立完成寫作任務(wù)。此寫作活動充分強化了有關(guān)連接詞的理解即運用,提高了學(xué)生的寫作能力。
學(xué)生最終完成習(xí)作后,將學(xué)生的作文張貼在教師里,讓學(xué)生互相批閱。學(xué)生互相批閱能激發(fā)他們主動尋找差距的意識,也是對單元目標語言再理解、再鞏固的過程。學(xué)生從另外的角度反思自己習(xí)作中的語言運用,強化語用意識和語言運用能力。教師在學(xué)生批閱完后,可再作進一步檢查。這屬于指導(dǎo)性主題寫作。通過教師不同程度的引導(dǎo)和幫助,學(xué)生將自己要表達的思想通過一定的邏輯組織后用文字表達出來。
這種主題寫作練習(xí)可以是獨立完成,也可以是小組合作,方式可以靈活多樣。指導(dǎo)性主題寫作是介于模仿性寫作和自由寫作之間的過渡性寫作,學(xué)生在進行大量的模仿性寫作練習(xí)和指導(dǎo)性寫作練習(xí)后,才能掌握一定的寫作技巧,從而進行自由寫作。指導(dǎo)性主題寫作可以幫助學(xué)生從原始的模仿性單元語料學(xué)習(xí)過渡到具有創(chuàng)造性的基礎(chǔ)語言運用,提升綜合語言運用能力。
