  My Favourite Festival

There are many traditional festivals in China. My favourite festival is the Spring Festival. It is a very important festival for Chinese. Before the festival, people will go to visit their relatives and friends. They usually have a big dinner together and give best wishes to each other. Most children in China love this festival because they can play fireworks and lucky money from their parents and relatives.

Last Qingming Festival,I return home to worship my grandfather.Qingming

Festival is a folk Festival. In the past,In the past, the Qingming Festival was called "Arbor Day". But Today, Chinese visit their family graves to tend to any underbrush that has grown. Weeds are pulled, and dirt swept away, and the family will set out offerings of food and spirit money. Unlike the sacrifices at a family's home altar, the offerings at the tomb usually consist of dry, bland food. One theory is that since any number of ghosts rome around a grave area, the less appealing food will be consumed by the ancestors, and not be plundered by strangers.

With the passing of time, this celebration of life became a day to the honor past ancestors. Following folk religion, the Chinese believed that the spirits of deceased ancestors looked after the family. Sacrifices of food and spirit money could keep them happy, and the family would prosper through good harvests and more children.

The Dragon Boat Festival is a lunar (陰歷)holiday, occurring (存正)on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month (農(nóng)歷史五月第五天). Dragon Boat Festival is my

favourite festival.During the holiday of Dragon Boat Festival,I got together with my family to have a big meal.We ofen ate the zongzi. It tasted very nice. And we saw the Dragon Boat Races.I felt excited because the race was bustling with noise and

excitement. At Dragon Boat Festival,we also drank realgar wine. Some people thought drank realgar wine can protect themselves from illness.Dragon Boat Festival was interesting and I like it very much.

The Chinese Dragon Boat Festival is a significant (有意義的)holiday celebrated (慶祝)in China, and the one with the longest history (歷史最悠久). The Dragon Boat Festival is celebrated by b

oat races (龍舟賽) in the shape of dragons. Competing teams (競(jìng)爭(zhēng)團(tuán)隊(duì)) row their boats forward to a drumbeat (擊古)racing to reach the finish end first.

The boat races during the Dragon Boat Festival are traditional customs (傳統(tǒng)習(xí)俗)to attempts to (試圖)rescue (搭救) the patriotic poet (愛(ài)國(guó)詩(shī)人)Chu Yuan. Chu Yuan drowned (溺死) on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month in 277 B.C. Chinese citizens now throw bamboo leaves (竹葉) filled with cooked rice into the water.

Therefore the fish could eat the rice rather than the hero poet. This later on turned into the custom of eating tzungtzu and rice dumplings(粽子).

The celebration's is a time for protection (防護(hù)) from evil (邪惡) and disease (疾病) for the rest of the year. It is done so by different practices such as hanging healthy herbs on the front door, drinking nutritious concoctions (營(yíng)養(yǎng)品), and displaying (展示) portraits (畫(huà)像) of evil's nemesis(邪惡報(bào)應(yīng)), Chung Kuei. If one manages to (成功做...) stand (直立)an egg on it's end at exactly 12:00 noon, the following year will be a lucky one.

Today, people eat bamboo-wrapped steamed glutinous(粘的) rice dumplings called zongzi (the food originally intended to feed the fish) and race dragon boats in memory of Qu's dramatic death.

Spring Festival is my favorite among all the Chinese traditional festival. The first reason why I love it the most is because I can get lucky money on that festival. It is the Chinese custom that the old will give children lucky money on Spring Festival to wish a good luck for the young generation. Moreover, people everywhere on those days are full of happiness. Quarrel, fight and abuse are almost disappeared at that time. Meanwhile, my mother will make a big meal for us to celebrate. Everyone will forget the unhappy thing they meet, instead remembering to appreciate life to wish a better future. That is my favorite festival.

In many countries it has long been the tradition to hold an annual tree or forest festival. The origin of such celebrations dates back to antiquity and is in the dawn of religious feeling and awe for what trees represented. However, Arbor Day, as it is commonly known today, is of American origin and evolved from conditions peculiar to the Great Plains. It was first observed in Nebraska in 1872.

The idea, conceived by J.S. Morton, then a member of the Nebraska State Board of Agriculture, was one of forest conservation. It was a move to promote replanting, following deforestation, and to plant up treeless areas.

The idea has spread widely to other lands where it is variously celebrated as the 'Festival of Trees', 'Greening Week' of Japan, 'The New Year's Days of Trees' in Israel, 'The Tree-loving Week' of Korea, 'The Reforestation Week' of Yugoslavia, 'The Students' Afforestation Day' of Iceland and 'The National Festival of Tree Planting' in India.

Arbor Day in its various forms is now recognised in more than fifty countries.

During the year, there are many festivals, such as Spring Festival, New Year's day, father's day, mother's day, etc. However, I like Christmas.

Tonight is Christmas Eve, I bought a lot of Christmas decorations with my mother, and I bought a Christmas tree about 2 meters high to prepare for Christmas tomorrow.

When Christmas finally arrived, my sister and I hung up the Christmas tree, and I suddenly found that the bottom was empty. So I was in a hurry with my sister, I picked up my dragon-dragon toy and other small toys to hang on the bottom, after hanging up, but found a few empty places. So, my sister and I had to take a part of it from the top and hang it until it was even up and down.

This Christmas brings me endless fun.

To hang a Christmas tree is to hang up the Christmas tree and hang up the Christmas tree. We played the Christmas song, singing and dancing around the Christmas tree, very happy!

  I love this Christmas.

  Mid-Autumn Day

Mid-autumn day falls on the fifteenth day of eighth lunar month. For Chinese, the full moon means blessedness and unity. Traditionally, on that day, Chinese family members and friends will gather to admire the bright mid-autumn moon, and eat moon cakes and pomegranate together. Typical mooncakes are round or rectangular pastries. Most mooncakes consist of a thin tender skin enveloping a sweet, dense filling

  My explanations of interesting questions:

1、Why do Chinese have Spring Festival? Where did it come from?

In Chinese mythology, the monster Nian is a beast that lives in the mountains. Every 365 days, it comes out of hiding to attack people, especially children. That day is the critical day for people. But Nian is sensitive to loud noises and is afraid of the color red. People came up with a plan to drive the monster away. On the day Nian came out, people shut doors and stay at home. They made loud noises and light firecrackers to scare away Nian.

  2. Why should Chinese do house cleaning before Spring Festival?

The 24th day on the last lunar month is the day for cleanup. Everyone should have a

spring-cleaning, do home cleaning, sweep their home, clean windows, wash clothes and

clean dishes, so that keep dust away. In Chinese, the word “dust” has the same pronunciation with “old”. So to sweep dust is a metaphor of sweeping away the old and starting afresh.
